Dial-UpConfiguration |
Step 1
In order to have dial-up access to the UNET computers, you must
configure your modem properly.
NOTE: If you do not have a modem configured to
your computer, Windows 2000 will walk you through the modem setup
automatically. Once you have completed the setup, however, repeat
this section to double-check the settings.

Choose the Start button at the
lower left-hand corner of the desktop.
Scroll to Settings then to
Control Panel.
Step 2
Double Click Phone and Modem Options

If you do not have any modems configured to your computer, Windows
2000 will take you through the configuration step-by-step. Simply
follow the prompts on the screen.
If you already have a modem configured in the Modems Properties
window, highlight it and then click Properties.

Step 3
Under the General Tab your
Maximum Port Speed should be set to
the speed of your modem.
f you do not know the speed of your modem, consult your owner's
manual OR go ahead and
set the speed to 57600.
Click OK.

Step 4
In order to dial in to the UNET network, you must
configure the network components on your computer.
If you haven't already, you must Configure Your Modem

Choose the Start button at the
lower left hand corner of the desktop. Scroll to
Settings then to
Control Panel.

Double-Click Network and Dial-Up Connections.

Double-Click Make New Connection

Windows should automatically start the Network Connection Wizard.
Click Next to continue.

Choose Dial-up to private network.
Click Next to continue.

Make sure dialing rules is
deselected. In Phone number type
the number you will dial
when connecting to UNET.
Click Next to continue.

Under Create this connection
choose the option Only for myself.
Click Next to continue.

The name you want to use for the connection is
UNET. Enable the option
Add a shortcut to my desktop.
Click Finish to end the
Network Connection Wizard.
You have completed configuring your computer for Dial-up Networking.
Close the Dial-Up Networking window.
Step 7


Click the Start button at the bottom left-hand corner of the
desktop and scroll to Shut Down...
Connecting
to UNET
Connecting
Double click on the UNET icon
on your desktop.

In the Connect To window enter your network Username
and Password.
Click Connect.
NOTE: This part will depend on the phone
line you are using. If you are using a direct line, use 8350501,
otherwise, just type 9,8350501. If you encountered busy tones or
some connection problems, you can use 8860501.
You should see the connection process (as pictured below).


The Connection window will verify
your information.


When the connection is complete, the window will say
Connected to UNET

Minimize this window by clicking at its top right corner.
You should now be able to run your computer's Internet programs
(Eudora, Netscape, etc.)
Disconnecting
Close all of your network and Internet applications.
On the Taskbar at the bottom of the desktop, click on the
Connected to UNET icon.

Click Disconnect. |
