Choose the Start button at
the lower left hand corner of the desktop. Scroll to
Settings then to Control Panel then to Modems.
STEP 2
If you do not have any modems configured to your computer,
Windows ME will take you through the configuration
step-by-step. Simply follow the prompts on the screen.
If you already have a modem configured in the Modems
Properties window, highlight it and then click
Properties.

STEP 3
Click on the Connection tab at the top of the window. It
should appear as below.

Data Bits: should be 8
Parity: should be none
Stop Bits: should be 1
Wait for Dial Tone before Dialing: should be selected
Cancel call if not within __ seconds: should be selected
and 90 should be placed in the seconds box
NOTE: If some of these options weren't available, don't worry.
Your modem may not support them.
STEP 4
Click on the Port Settings button at the bottom of the
window. It should appear as below.

Use Fifo Buffers: should be selected
Receive Buffer: should be set to High
Transmit Buffer: should be set to Maximum
Click OK.

Your modem may not support them.
STEP 5
Click on the Advanced button at the bottom of the
screen. It should appear as below.

Use error control: should be selected
Under this section, choose Compress Data
Use flow control: should be selected
Under this section, choose Hardware
Modulation Type: should be Standard
Extra Settings: should be left blank
Click OK.
Click OK again.
NOTE: If some of these options weren't available, don't worry.
Your modem may not support them.
STEP 6
Click on the Dialing Properties button at the bottom of
the window. It should appear as below.

Location: click on New and fill in the
information about your dialing location. You may have more than
one dialing location if necessary.
Area Code: fill in appropriate information
I am in: fill in appropriate information
To access an outside line: fill in the appropriate
numbers if it is necessary to dial to get an outside line
Dial using calling card: choose this option if you are
dialing in long distance and need to use a calling card
Call Waiting: choose this option if you have call
waiting and type (i.e.*70) in the box to disable it. If
you do not have call waiting, make sure that you DO NOT select
this option.
Choose either Tone Dialing as appropriate.
Click OK.
STEP 7
Click on the Diagnostics Tab at the top of the window.
It should appear as below

Highlight the COM Port that your modem is on.
Click on More Info... (This will check your modem to
make sure that it is working properly.)
Click OK.
You have now completed configuring your modem. Click Close
to finish.
STEP 8
In order to dial in to the UNET network, you must configure the
network components on your computer. If you haven't already,
you must Configure Your Modem

Choose the Start button at the lower left hand corner of
the desktop. Scroll to Settings then to Control Panel
and then to Network.
STEP 9
The Configuration Tab should appear as below.

Click Add.
STEP 10

From the list of options, highlight Protocol and click
Add again.

In the left window choose Microsoft.
In the right window choose TCP/IP.
Click OK to finish.
STEP 11
Dial-Up Adapter
To adjust the settings, click
on Dial-up Adapter and then click Properties.

The Driver Type Tab should appear as below.

Select Enhanced Mode.
Click on the Bindings Tab. It should appear as below.

Select TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter.
Click on the Advanced Tab. It should appear as below.

Property: Record a log file
Value: No
Property: Use IPX header compression
Value: Yes
You have completed the settings. Click OK.
STEP 12

Choose Start, then scroll to Settings and then to
Dial-Up Networking.

To make a connection to the UNET, double click on Make New
Connection

Type a name for the computer you are dialing: type
UNET
NOTE: You do not need to choose the Configure button
under the modem selection box. That information is being added
when you configured your modem.
Click Next.

Type in your dial-up phone number.
NOTE:
This part will depend on
the phone line you are using. If you are using a direct line,
use 8350501, otherwise, just type 9,8350501. If you
encountered busy tones or some connection problems, you can use
8860501.
Click Next.

Click Finish.
STEP 13

Right click on the UNET icon.

Scroll down to Properties.
You will see the General Tab.

Under the General Tab,
deselect Use country code and area code.
Click on the Configure... button at the bottom of the
General Tab.
Click the General Tab

The information under the General Tab should have been
configured when you set up your modem.
STEP 14
Click the Options Tab.

Bring up terminal window before dialing: should be
deselected
Bring up terminal window after dialing: should be
deselected
Operator assisted or manual dial: should be deselected
Display modem status: should be selected
Click OK.
STEP 15
Click on the Server Types Tab at the top of the window.

Type of Dial-up Server:
choose PPP: Internet, Windows 2000/NT, Windows ME
Advanced Options: select
Enable software compression
Allowed Network Protocols:
select TCP/IP
Click OK.
Select TCP/IP Settings...

Select options Server
assigned IP address.
Enable options Use IP header
compression and Use default gateway on remote network
Click OK
STEP 16
Hold down the right mouse button on the UNET icon and
drag it to the desktop. Let go of the mouse button. A window
will come up.

Shortcut Here. Now the UNET icon will be on your
desktop when you start up your computer. |

You have completed configuring your computer for Dial-up
Networking.
Close the Dial-Up Networking window.
Close the My Computer window.

Click the Start button at the bottom lefthand corner of
the desktop and scroll to Shut Down...

Select Restart the Computer and then click OK.
After restarting the computer, you should see the UNET icon. By
double clicking on the icon, you can now connect to the UNET
Network.

Double click on the UNET
icon on your desktop.

In the Connect To window enter your network Username
and Password.
Click Connect.
You should see the connection process (as pictured below).

The Connection window will verify your information.

When the connection is complete, the window will say
Connected to UNET.

Minimize this window by
clicking at its top right corner.
You should now be able to run your computer's Internet programs
(Eudora, Netscape, etc.)
Disconnecting
Close all of your network and
Internet applications.
On the Taskbar at the bottom of the desktop, click on the
Connected to UNET icon.

Click Disconnect.
